Gor And Sofapaka Fined
Football Kenya Federation have punished Gor Mahia and Sofapaka for the unrest witnessed during Sunday’s Kenya Premier League match at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
The governing body fined Gor mahia Sh500,000 and ordered they play their remaining two KPL matches in an empty stadium.
Sofapaka, the home team, were fined Sh300, 000 as the federation, in a meeting with stakeholders yesterday, found them at fault in failing to provide adequate security for the volatile encounter.
“After perusing all the relevant documents and match reports it was noted that Sofapaka FC were the home team in the match and were responsible for the provision of adequate and elaborate security for the match,” read a statement from FKF chief executive officer Michael Esakwa.
“However it has been established there was inadequate security at the venue for such a high profile match in a violation of Article -3.5 of the Rules of Kenyan Football.”
The Federation also faulted the Machakos County Government led by governor Alfred Mutua for fining Gor mahia Sh10m and banning them from using the stadium, saying “they did not channel their claims to FKF/KPL as they lack the jurisdiction to fine or ban teams.”
FKF President Sam Nyamweya observed the trend has been worrying and warned strict measures will be imposed next month including the docking of up to 15 points from teams found guilty of failing to control their fans or provide adequate security. The federation also moved in to settle the dispute following the abandoned match betweenTusker FC and Muhoroni Youth.
Following yesterday’s meeting, Esakwa said: “It was unanimously agreed that indeed Tusker FC fielded 12 players thus violating the rules governing football on the number of players.”
“After interviewing the match officials it was established the four match officials, centre referee Andrew Juma, first assistant Peter Kiereini, second assistant Oliver Ouma and fourth official Yassin Badir were at fault. The officials were sanctioned. Juma was reprimanded, Ouma handed a three month suspension while Kiereini and Badir were suspended for six months each.
“Tusker FC technical bench officials comprising of head coach (Francis Kimanzi) and assistant coach (Leonard Odipo) were also found guilty of contributoing to the confusion which led to the substitution and were each fined Sh100,000 payable in seven ( 7 ) days,” added Esakwa.
“The committee after perusing the match reports found Tusker FC guilty of serious violation on the football rules and therefore awarded the match to Muhoroni Youth FC on a 2 - 0 basis.”
The match was abandoned in the 76th minute after Muhoroni Youth players complained that Tusker had twelve players in the field of play.
