Baringo speaker arrested at JKIA over clashes that left 3 GSU officers dead
Baringo County Assembly Speaker William Kamket was early Tuesday morning arrested at JKIA as he was about to fly out to Istanbul, Turkey. Police arrested Kamket at around 4am over his alleged involvement in clashes in the county that have left several people dead including five police officers and herders.
Kamket posted on his Facebook profile, “This is to let all friends, comrades, compatriots and gallant sons and daughters of Tiaty and Baringo County that the forces of evil have conspired to successfully have me arrested tonight at Jomo Kenyatta Airport. I am now detained here.” Kamket was taken to Baringo for grilling as police said they had been monitoring his activities prior to the arrest at JKIA. Kamket maintained innocence and called on Baringo residents to pray for him.
“I urge all the people of goodwill to join me in prayer so as to defeat this evil conspiracy. Together we shall emerge out of this stronger than ever before. God bless,” Kamket said. Security personnel have mounted an operation in Baringo county where there have been cattle rustling activities.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday ordered for the immediate arrests those behind the clashes. Baringo County Commissioner Peter Okwanyo said police will not leave until firearms and ammunition stolen from the five officers killed are recovered. Baringo residents have however accused the officers of using excessive force while conducting the operation.
